Recent recoveries

We recently received some reports that birds ringed by WWRG had been seen or found elsewhere. Click on the points on the map below to see the details of the birds reported abroad.

Waders

Sanderling (BT06289) ringed as an adult at Heacham, Norfolk on 20 March 2011 was found dead on the tide line at Snettisham, Norfolk on 19 August 2017.

Curlew (FH81484) was ringed as an adult at Snettisham, Norfolk on 20 September 2016 and found dead on the tide line at Snettisham, Norfolk on 19 August 2017.

Knot (SV59468) was ringed as an adult at Wainfleet Marsh, Lincolnshire on 29 August 2011 and was caught again by a ringer at Griend in The Netherlands, 331 km only, on 27 August 2017.

Knot (SX71357) was ringed as an adult at Snettisham Norfolk on 5 October 2013 and was caught again by a ringer at Griend in The Netherlands, 324 km only, on 26 August 2017.

Redshank (DE41066) was ringed as a juvenile on Terrington Marsh, Norfolk on 19 September 2012 and found dead on a beach in Flamborough, Yorkshire on 2 September 2017.

Oystercatcher (FH31090) was ringed as an adult at Wainfleet Marsh, Lincolnshire on 16 September 2012 and had its metal ring read in the field in Rogaland in Norway, 700 km away, on 31 July 2017.

Oystercatcher (FA15278) was ringed as an adult at Heacham, Norfolk on 27 November 1988 and found dead having been predated by a bird in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway, 1,290 km away, on 13 August 2017. This bird was over 30 years old when it died.

Oystercatcher (FH94059) was ringed as an adult at Wainfleet Marsh, Lincolnshire on 19 August 2016 and had its metal ring read in the field in Rogaland in Norway, 700 km away, on 31 July 2017.

Oystercatcher (FP61693) was ringed as an adult at Snettisham, Norfolk on 12 March 2005 and had its metal ring read in the field in Rogaland in Norway, 715 km away, on 31 July 2017.

Gulls

Until recently, WWRG was involved in a project to monitor gull productivity on one of the trial bank islands off Terrington Marsh (see The Wash) and the following are reports of chicks ringed as part of that project.

Lesser Black-backed Gull (GC16560) was ringed as a chick near Terrington st Clement, Norfolk on 26 June 2005 and identified by its colour rings in Brandenburg, Germany, 952 km away, on 31 May 2017.

Lesser Black-backed Gull (GC79001) was ringed as a chick near Terrington st Clement, Norfolk on 22 June 2008 and was found ill and taken into care in Porto, Portugal, 1,463 km away, on 31 August 2017.
